Menstruation - The Original Ayahuasca Ceremony
Dec 18, 2024
I've been asked whether woman should do plant ceremonies at all.
There is no simple answer I can offer. For the reason that many of us are still living inside the numb cultural paradigm of having zero relationship with and sensation in our cervix and womb. Believing painful bleeds and uterine growth are the norm. Overly stimulating the clitoris. Doing all the “pussy” and “pleasure” work without connecting with the rest of our pelvis, heart, and nervous system. And birthing our relationships and realities solely from above the neck, devoid of the womb-heart continuum.
Ayahuasca is a parasympathetic medicine, that is yin in nature.
She is very much the guardian of the shadows, the underworld, and ancestral healing.
What you experience in an ayahuasca ceremony, can all be accessed and integrated through your monthly bleed - at an embodied pace that is just right for your body and mind.
Our monthly menstruation time is our shamanic journey.
When a woman enters into her menstrual time, she descends into the underworld.
She uncovers and retrieves fractals in the spiral of her feminine consciousness, that may have long been locked away or forgotten, that are vital for her healing and the evolution of her soul.
As our blood pools inside our wombs, our emotions run high and our wombs feel heavy.
We are feeling both what’s from our own lives. As well as all that hasn’t been said, sighed, held, honored, cried, or released from the women in our maternal lineage.
This is the original ceremony of ancestral healing.
We are often plunged into deep introspection and reflection.
This is our winter, a time to be in the dark damp soils of our yin.
We are less inclined to remain in a sympathetic state of logic and reasoning.
Our cervix is soft and open, spinning in a downward motion to facilitate the release.
The menstrual ceremony is a time of being, rather than doing:
- Feeling.
- Surrendering.
- Peeling back the layers.
- Unwinding from our performative nature and urgency to accomplish.
- Releasing.
- Nurturing.
- Embodying of Yin essence.
- And resting into the mother medicine of the womb.
Our monthly bleed is not only a time of psycho-emotional detoxication, but also a primordial rite of passage:
Into our woman.
Our primal and feeling bodies.
Our dark fertileness.
And our intimate and harmonious connection with the earth.
Having experienced both - healing through plant medicine and the womb, my experience is that with the womb, the healing occurs at a more organically embodied and *sober* level without much of the distraction, romanticism, and possible spiritual bypassing and disassociation from being in a chemically-altered state.
The womb holds the full physiological and relational blueprint of our woman. She facilitates life and death. A thriving womb, means a thriving woman in her health, sexuality, relationship, and business.
Womb-centered living is a call for an even deeper level of feminine maturation and responsibility. An invitation of true embodiment:
To slow down. To ground into your tissues. To meet and mobilize the parts of you that may be numb, stagnant, and silent. To connect with your blood. To attune to your nervous system capacity and hormonal rhythms. To make love not just with the cosmic, but also with the mundane.
There is no deeper receivership with men or the masculine, without you cultivating the lifelong intimate trust with your womb. And how you walk with your womb, is how you walk LIFE.
